This hat pattern reminds me of people holding hands! United in love for one another!

Linked in Love Knitted Hat

Doesn’t it look like people holding hands? While I was designing this pattern, something with an easy color change, I noticed that after a few rows it looked like people holding hands! It’s such a beautiful reminder to love one another, just as Christ loves us. We are all created in the image of God.

One of my favorite parts of knitting is that the color combos are endless. There’s so much creativity just in the color choices. I started with the oatmeal and black, then I made a burgundy and cream. Next, was a deep purple and cream one for myself since my winter coat is purple. Using a lighter color and a darker color combo seems to really make the pattern pop.

My favorite yarns for this hat:

My go-to budget-friendly yarn is Lion Brand Wool Ease Thick n Quick. It’s thick and warm and knits up so quickly! Super bulky is my favorite to work with, especially when you want to “mass produce” hats for your business/craft shows/ chemo hats/homeless ministry. You could use any super bulky yarn for this hat and MANY of my patterns use super bulky yarn.

My luxury “splurge” yarn is Malabrigo Rasta. It’s 100% wool, making it super warm and ultra squishy. I love the gorgeous colors. This is my splurge yarn because of the price. I have a local yarn store that I like to support for those special purchases and I love to see it in person. If you don’t have the budget for the pricy yarn, any super bulky yarn will work well for this pattern.

I hope you love knitting up the Linked in Love Hat pattern!! As always, you have my permission to sell the finished products, just please do not sell my pattern. Thank you!! Blessings, Hannah

    • ◾Women's average size measures 9 inches tall and 21-24 inch head circumference
    • Tips and Skills to know:
    • This hat is worked in the round.
    • Skills and terms you will need to know: Cast on (CO), knit (K) purl (P), and Knit 2 stitches together (K2TOG).
    • Casting on: When you cast on, make sure you do not pull the yarn too tightly, just relaxed, yet even tension.
    • When changing colors, drop the old color and knit with the new color, carrying the yarn behind your work (wrong side/inside of hat)
    • Decreasing Rounds: You can switch to double pointed needles when you begin decreasing your stitches, but I find the magic loop method works well since I only use 3 rounds of decreasing for the crown on the hat.
    • Fit of finished hat: I design my hats to keep your ears warm, so the ribbing is tighter and less likely to stretch out over time. I like when a hat covers my ears and hugs my head. However, if you like a looser fit, you can go up a needle size, or .you may find that after a few wears the yarn will relax a bit.
    • This is an easy pattern to modify for different sizes, simply cast on an even number of stitches and knit it as tall as you would like in the pattern. Just allowing for about an inch of decreasing rows.

    Instructions

Choose your 2 colors (Noted as Color A and Color B)

With main color/color A, CO 42 stitches with smaller needle (US 9) with even tension, but NOT tightly.

Join in the round, careful not to twist the yarn. Place stitch marker between first and last stitch, slip your stitch marker between each round.

    Rounds 1-8: With color A- *K1, P1*, repeat from * around.

Begin Pattern 4 row repeat: You will be using US 11 needles for the rest of the hat.

Round 9: This round you will switch to size 11 needles. With Color B and using size US 11 needles: Knit all around, using color B.

    Round 10: *K1 (B), K1 (A)*. Repeat from * around.

Round 11: With A- Knit all stitches around

    Round 12: *K1 (B), K1 (A)*. Repeat from * around.

Repeat rounds 9-12 until hat measures 8 inches tall or desired height, ending with a knit all stitches round in color B.

    • Decreasing rounds: (switch to double pointed needles if desired or use magic loop method like me.)
    • Drop color A: Decreasing rounds are worked in color B only.
    • Round 1: *K2TOG, K1* repeat from *
    • Round 2: *K2TOG, K1*, repeat from *
    • Round 3: K2TOG across the row.
    • Finishing:
    • Cut yarn, leaving a 8-10 inches tail for finishing. Using your darning needle, thread end through remaining stitches being careful to go through the middle of each stitch . Pull knitting needle off of stitches. Pull yarn tightly and secure. Weave in any loose ends. Attach your faux fur pom pom and tag, if using. Pom poms shown are from Naptime Knitter Design on Etsy.

If the ribbing section of the hat feels a bit snug, it will relax after a few wears or you can put your hands in it and firmly shape it so the yarn will relax.

I hope you had fun knitting up the Linked in Love Knitted Hat! Thank you so much!
